EXCLUSIVE: Paramount Global has just announced that Showtime will be integrated into Paramount+ for both streaming and linear later this year. In preparation for the move, the premium cable network, which will be renamed Paramount+ with Showtime, had been reassessing its programming slate in recent weeks under new chief executive Chris McCarthy.
As a result, Showtime will not proceed with new series three women, with Shailene Woodley, Betty Gilpin, DeWanda Wise and Gabrielle Creevy, which is over. The drama has been quietly bought up by its producers, and I hear there has been interest, with at least one offer on the table.
Additionally, Showtime chose not to pick up Season 2 of two freshman drama series: Leave the one on the right inwith Demián Bichir, and american gigolo, titled by Jon Bernthal. The former, based on the best-selling 2004 novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist and its 2008 Swedish film adaptation, was also picked up on other platforms by Tomorrow Studios. (I hear that any titles removed from the Showtime platform as part of the restructuring will be available to take elsewhere.)
This marks the final turning point in Leave the one on the right inis a long journey. The series originally premiered at A&E and A+E studios in 2015, then moved to TNT, where a pilot was commissioned and cast but did not go into production. The series eventually found its way to Showtime, where it aired.
It’s probably the end of the road for american gigolo, which had been plagued with problems during production, including a misconduct investigation and a change of showrunner, ultimately producing an eight-episode season out of an original 10-episode order.
Canceling completed seasons of TV shows or movies has become a favorite MO for media companies over the past year. The strategy has been aggressively employed by Warner Bros. Discovery, and others have also joined.
In three women, adapted by Taddeo based on Lisa Taddeo’s non-fiction bestseller, a group of women take a crash course to radically change their lives. The series is produced by Taddeo, showrunner Laura Eason, Kathy Ciric and Emmy Rossum. Louise Friedberg directed and produced the first two episodes.
Showtime has other high-profile upcoming scripted series, including Ripley and King Shaka, which are in post-production.
In terms of renewal, no decision has yet been made on the future of be them and I like it for you. I hear the former has unofficially sent feelers to market, while the latter has penned a second season.

american gigolo, a current reimagining of the iconic 1980 film, follows Julian Kaye (Bernthal) after his release for wrongful conviction after 15 years in prison as he navigates his complicated relationship with his former lover Michelle (Gretchen Mol), his troubled mother and the people who betrayed him. The project is a Paramount Television Studios production.
