George Clooney reveals he had Bell’s palsy as a teenager
It’s safe to say that Jimmy Kimmel learned two key lessons on the Thursday, Jan. 26, edition of his show. First, bad throwback photos don’t always make for good comedy and second, never underestimate the social lubricity of adult drinks on live TV. While chatting with guests Snoop Dogg and George Clooney about their early experiences on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Jimmy shared throwback photos of the two, teasing George about his preteen bowl coif. “I want to point out that my mom cut my hair,” George deadpanned in response, according to People. Jimmy then showed the audience a photo of the future idol as a teenager. In this photo, George sports an undeniably crooked smile. It turns out there was a medical reason for the look on the Oscar-winning actor’s face.
“Now wait, I want to point out something because you’re going to laugh, make a joke. I have Bell’s palsy over there and half my face is paralyzed,” George said, before covering half of the photo with his hand to show how, “if you go like this, on the other side, it’s a completely different face.” With an air of prankster superiority, George then challenged the comedian by teasing, “So now do your joke. Come on, funny man. Come on, let me give you my sad face.”
To his credit, Jimmy handled it all with impressive aplomb — in the form of booze shots. “You know what? I had no joke, George, and you really knocked everybody down,” he joked. After a pause, he added, “Maybe we should have another toast to put things right,” and they did just that.
